Snake symbols? Is there a connection between different views?
Yes. Snakes were considered by ancient people to be archetypal symbols of primordial wisdom. Seraphim, the highest order of angels, means "fiery serpents" The caduseus of Mercury (twin serpents entwined around a staff) may be a Western equivalent of the Eastern idea of Kundalini. The symbol is found in more ancient Western cultures as well. The Jewish story of Adam and Eve being tempted by a serpent is a variation of an early Babylonian story in which the serpent is a heroic rather than diabolical character. It is common for rivaling cultures to take each other's myths and turn them upside down and make gods into demons and vice versa--so this is where we get the demonization of the serpent in Christian lore.
