PAE with 1GB RAM good or bad?

I noticed that I have PAE (Physical address extension) on while only having 1GB of RAM. Is this beneficial?? Coz I'm going to turn off DEP anyways. I think that PAE is causing problems on my machine with memory could not be read/written problems...
