Can my fiancee have a girl as his best man at our wedding?

My fiancee has no one that he feels is a good enough friend or supporter to ask to be his best man in our wedding. He does have a girl friend who is married and attending our wedding that he has know for 10+ years. Can she stand by his side or is that improper etiquette?
