How do you know if its love or infatuation?

Me and my best friend are soooooo close and when we are out and together people think that we are a couple he knows everything about me. Our friends say that they can sense the ual tension between us but we both just brush it off because we know that we are both just best friends. But recently our friendship has intensified all we want to do is spend time with each other and we talk everyday. I don't know if I love him or if I'm just infatuated with him. All I think about is him and he says the same. We do everything together just like a married couple shop together eat together cook for each other. But the only reason we can't be together is because he's gay. We dated for a minuet but that was along time ago way before I he came out the closet and before we were best friend but we both decided it was a little awkward then. I like everything about him and he likes everything about me...so is it love or infatuation...
